Tallink to open seasonal Helsinki-Riga service

Listed Estonian shipper Tallink Grupp announced on Thursday that it will operate a seasonal service between Helsinki and Riga from June 26 to Aug. 15, 2020.

The route will be serviced by Silja Serenade, a ship which normally plies the Helsinki-Stockholm route. The vessel will depart from the Olympia terminal of the South Port of Helsinki and from Riga every second day starting from June 26.

The ship in the summer will depart from both capitals every other day.

The ship will depart from Helsinki at 4 p.m. and arrive in Riga at 10:30 the next morning. It will depart from Riga at 4:30 p.m. and arrive in Helsinki at 11:00 a.m.

Tallink Grupp CEO Paavo Nogene said that the Riga-Helsinki route is not completely new for Tallink, as Tallink has previously offered special cruises between the capitals of Latvia and Finland that were very popular with the shipper's Finnish clients.

The company will apply stepped-up hygiene and safety measures on board the Silja Serenade, including more frequent cleaning and disinfection of surfaces. Restrictions have been established for the numbers of people allowed in bars and restaurants at different times and the entertainment offered will be consistent with safety requirements.
